About the Course

Increase your no decompression limits (NDLs) with Enriched Air, also known as Nitrox or EANx, by taking the PADI Enriched Air Diver course. This is a must have for divers wanting to do repetitive or deep diving, such as when diving on a liveaboard.

Following successful completion of the course, you will be certified to dive on enriched air, upto 40% oxygen concentration, anywhere around the world.

Course Outline

The course is broken up into 1 core stage, and 2 options. The stages are undertaken one after the other. Click through below to get more details on each of the stages.

Knowledge Development

Firstly you’ll be provided access to the PADI eLearning materials. You’ll learn about the equipment used during enriched air diving, how to obtain enriched air and analysing the gas, how to manage diving emergencies whilst on enriched air, and guidelines for diving with enriched air dive computers. The PADI Enriched Air Diver course theory is all digital, meaning you can do it from the comfort of your sofa on a computer or smart device.

Once you’ve completed the eLearning and all of the knowledge reviews, there is a final exam which you must complete. As per the eLearning, the exam is undertaken online. Prior to stage 2 of the course, your instructor will also administer a quick review in person to confirm your understanding of the knowledge development material.

Typical time commitment: 2-4 hours

Predive Simluations (Option 1)

The first option for the PADI Enriched Air Diver course consists of completing predive simluations. This is an entirely dry course option (no diving involved).

During the simluations, you will practice verifying cylinder contents and completing a fill log, and planning dives with enriched air, making adjustments to your dive using your computer and/or enriched air dive tables.

Typical time commitment: ½ day

Open Water Dives (Option 2)

The second option for the PADI Enriched Air Diver course consists of completing two open water dives. The open water dives are an opportunity for you to consolidate what you have learnt during the knowledge development portion of the course, and experience what it’s like to breathe enriched air whilst under the supervision of an instructor.

Prior to getting in the water, you and your instructor will plan the dives, considering you will be diving on enriched air, and making adjustments using your computer and/or enriched air diving tables. You will then go to an enriched air fill station and have your cylinders filled to your planned enriched air mix and confirm by performing a gas test.

You will then complete two open water dives using your enriched air mix(es). Your instructor will ensure that you are setting your computer correctly, if you are diving with one.

Typical time commitment: 1 day
