PADI Rescue Diver

PADI Rescue Diver

About the Course

The PADI Rescue Diver course will change the way you dive. Most of what you have learnt up to this point was about looking after yourself. During this course you will learn how to prevent problems and look after other divers when one does occur.

By the end of the course, you’ll have the skills and knowledge to identify issues before they become a problem, and overcome problems through self-rescue or the rescue of other divers.

Course Outline

The course is broken up into 3 stages, undertaken one after the other. Click through below to get more details on each of the stages.

Knowledge Development

The knowledge development portion of the Rescue Diver course will lay down the foundation on which to build during the in-water training exercises. You’ll learn about the role of the rescuer, how to identify problems, the principles of rescue skills and equipment available to you to use during a rescue. The PADI Rescue Diver course theory is all digital, meaning you can do it from the comfort of your sofa on a computer or smart device.

Once you’ve completed the eLearning and all of the knowledge reviews, there is a final exam which you must complete. As per the eLearning, the exam is undertaken online. Prior to the in-water training sessions, your instructor will also administer a quick review in person to confirm your understanding of the knowledge development material.

Typical time commitment: 8-12 hours

Rescue Exercises

During the rescue exercises, you’ll learn self-rescue techniques, and techniques to effect the rescue of other divers. Each exercise will build on the last, incrementally building your confidence in carrying out the skills. The exercises can be challenging and both physically and psychologically taxing as you perform similuated rescues on your fellow divers. If you would like to discuss what is involved in more detail, please contact us.

Following the rescue exercises, and prior to moving onto the rescue scenarios, your instructor will ask you to develop an emergency assistance plan for the location where the rescue scenarios will be held.

Typical time commitment: 1 day

Rescue Scenarios

This is it, a diver is missing. Now you’ll put all the skills that you have learnt during the rescue exercises into practice to complete two scenarios, working as a team with your fellow divers and acting on the emergency assistance plan that instructor will have asked you to develop. The day can be challenging, but also rewarding, as you witness how everything that you have learnt can be used to rescue a diver in need of assistance.

Typical time commitment: ½-1 day
